This review of style will be on The Clique.
The Clique is a graphic novel in manga style. I say this because it's not manga original. Meaning it was originally a movie (I believe) and was changed into a manga.
The real reason for me checking this one out is because my friend said not to. I figured it would amuse me. So I tried it.
The Clique is about a rich girl with a bunch of rich friends, who suddenly gets a family staying in her house. Her mother tells her to include the new family's daughter, but she doesn't. Instead they try to humiliate her, until the end when the new girl begins to manipulate their opinions of her.
Something that stood out to me about this book was that all sorts of ages are used. The variety is another thing that I'm a bit lacking myself. I think that the ability to draw different ages is important.
I liked that in this manga they give little blurbs on when and where the scene is taking place.
This manga includes a few color pages after the cover (which sometimes happens. I've seen it before). I like that choice when it's not overdone. As I've mentioned before, sometimes adding color to manga can be a big mistake. I think it mostly has to do with the colors chosen or extra shading added. I'm not sure. However this was done in a way that didn't make me hate the manga, so it works.
This cover looks pretty nice in my opinion. You can get a sort of idea of what the characters are like, and it's different than typical manga covers. More importantly, the colors aren't freaky.
I like the style in this manga a lot. I find it interesting and a little bit more realistic than some other manga that I've read. Here are some of my favorite pictures, because of proportions or other pretty style choices.
One thing that's kind of important is the idea of the ultra-gorgeous girl. This person is supposed to be gorgeous. I don't know what it is that makes her that way. I think one thing that's pretty typical of the super pretty characters is that shine that she has on her hair. Long eyelashes are pretty important as well. I've made these pictures a bit bigger so that they're easier to look at and observe.
I like this. The names of characters are put in the beginning, but unlike the way that I've seen them before.
OVERVIEW:
Plot- I don't like the plot of this graphic novel so much. It seemed pretty typical and lacking a bit.
Style
- While I really enjoyed the style of this manga, there was one thing that stood out to me. If I remember correctly, the characters are only in junior high. This could be incorrect. Anyway, the point is they don't really seem that way. I think the style definitely contributes.
Read
Again? - If there was a second volume to this I probably wouldn't get it. And I don't think I would ever read it again.
